Ruth, Sam

Being a watercolour painter, I enjoy experimenting with photography and reproducing the formal qualities of painting, such as texture, line and form. I draw inspiration from beauty contained within the natural world and use photography as a medium to closely observe the varying contrasting layers, fragments and patterns of our environment.  Flowers in their very nature are rich in colour and by producing monochromatic images the appeal is twofold.  Firstly there is a sense of mystery; the viewer is invited to imagine the colour of the flower.  Secondly, by using a soft focus, there is a suggestion of the passing of time, recreating an element of nostalgia.
